Welcome to the Sinnergy community and anyone who comes across this blog! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Chelsey Pruett and I am a licensed therapist trained in both EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy with the Sinnergy Wellness Group. We treat eating disorders at every age and we believe in a nutrition first philosophy! Dietitians are such an important part of recovery and I cannot do my job without them, so thank you to our amazing team of extremely talented dietitians!
I have extensive training in substance use and eating disorders. I think we can identify an impactful or traumatic event prior to the start of the eating disorder or addiction. Oftentimes, the drugs, alcohol, shopping, sex, restriction, purging, self-harm, binge eating is a way to cope with what has happened to us in the past.
EMDR and ART are both treatments that can effectively treat trauma or impactful events that trigger our behaviors. If we do not heal the trauma, it becomes even more challenging to stop the behaviors that keep us stuck or even sick. So, what exactly is EMDR and ART…let’s talk about it!

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that helps to reprocess and desensitize traumatic memories that get stored in our brain. Think about a time when you were triggered and could not figure out why it bothered you so much. More times than not, the trigger is linked to a memory in the brain that was not processed effectively. We can call that a trauma, impactful or distressing event. EMDR is an eight phase treatment that uses rapid eye movement (REM) to reprocess, desensitize, and ultimately heal the mind. Powerful stuff!! Ok…now ART
ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) is similar in the fact that it uses rapid eye movement (REM) however it is rapid treatment. ART focuses on decreasing symptoms and sensations within the body and replaces negative or disturbing images from the traumatic event with pleasant ones. ART is brief, effective, and safe. ART can treat a wide range of issues such as grief, anxiety, OCD, family stressors, work stress, eating disorders, substance use, and much more!
I absolutely love both of these modalities and they are both evidenced based treatments. I have had amazing outcomes with both!
