In 2018, I saw a need for the ED treatment community to prioritize and focus more intently on nutritional rehabilitation at the outpatient level. We have so many wonderful behavioral health centric group practices for eating disorders, but what was missing was a nutrition centric outpatient group practice laser focused on the provision of intensive nutrition rehabilitation services for eating disorders. I believe we have some of the most experienced and expert level ED dietitians, medical, and behavioral health providers in the field right here in Arizona. This presented such an exciting opportunity to establish and assemble a group practice of talented EDRD’s who could be well supported by other necessary disciplines to provide the best medical nutritional care out there.
Our nutrition team has advanced certifications and expertise in a multitude of areas such as enteral and parenteral nutrition, functional nutrition, gut health gastroenterology, diabetes, intuitive eating, and sports nutrition to name a few. My hope is that by building this team, we could really decrease the need for repeated inpatient stays with better outcomes on the outpatient level. All in all, I believe effective treatment is about “the right level of care” not necessarily a “higher level of care”. The magic is in the team!
